The Team

The Central Texas Clinical Research team can be characterized by two words: longevity and loyalty. Experience counts, and all of our coordinators have over 10 years of experience in clinical trials.

Alissa Milam

Alissa Milam is a clinical research coordinator and has been part of the CTCR team since 2009. She started working with Dr. Brinson at her family practice in 2003 and has been with her ever since. Alissa is the go-to person if there is ever a difficult blood draw. She enjoys spending time with her dog and reading mystery novels.

Krissandra Underwood is a clinical research coordinator and has been with CTCR since 2005. She has been in research for 11 years and worked with Dr. Brinson in her private practice for 6 years. She is certified in clinical research, is a certified medical assistant, and is working on a degree in human services. Krissy exemplifies the meaning of teamwork and true kindness. Her passions are music and social activities.


Monae Miller is a clinical research coordinator with 9 years’ experience in clinical research data management with a focus in process and document control, form design, creating templates for clinical study reports and protocols, technical writing for internal standard procedures, and training clinic staff. She is also a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin (BS Biochemistry, 2006) and The University of Phoenix (Master of Health Administration, 2010). Her passions are music and art.


Jamé Fourie is a clinical research coordinator who has been working in clinical research since 2002 with an emphasis in working with acutely mentally ill subjects. Jamé has a lot of experience with psychiatric clinical trials phase 1-4. She holds a great deal of experience in neurocognitive testing and administration. She has a degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice. Jamé has a vast collection of interests but her favorites include being outdoors, learning new things, challenging herself and of course her two fur babies.


Heather Bourek is a clinical research coordinator who joined CTCR in May 2017. She has worked in Project Management, Site Management, Data Management, and as a Clinical Research Consultant in the Austin area for 16 years. She is a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator and Member of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals since October 2009. She is trained in Urodynamics through Society of Urological Nurses and Associates. She is an advocate for Mental Health in supporting Children with Disabilities. She demonstrated this support as a Team Captain in the National Alliance on Mental Illness walk in 2016. 


Bandana Risal, MSN, APRN, AGNP-C is our Nurse Practitioner. She completed her MSN in Adult and Geriatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and is a licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse under Texas Board Of Nursing. She completed her Bachelor of science in Nursing (2010) at Wichita State University, and worked for 7 years in the acute and Intensive Care Unit as a Registered Nurse. In addition to being our sub investigator, she is Dr. Brinson’s right hand woman at Red River Family practice as a Nurse Practitioner.  Bandana is also  an instructor with Austin Community College’s nursing faculty. 


Vianai A. Carreño has been with CTCR since May of 2017. She started her studies at the University of Texas at Austin in August of 2015 and is set to graduate May of 2019. She will take a gap year before pursuing her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies. Her skills as a pharmacy technician help us tremendously with drug accountability and her Spanish-speaking ability allows us to reach more patients. She's also savvy on social media, which helps with patient recruitment! Outside of work and class, she's either busy leading two organizations on campus or in the gym!

Daniel Duncan is the Communications Manager. He is responsible for recruitment and marketing as well as the scheduling of study participants. Daniel attended Northeastern State University and has a wide range of work experience from advertising to being a milliner’s apprentice which allows him to handle almost any project.

Tom Brinson is Managing Partner at Central Texas Clinical Research. He has managed the business since he came on board in 2003. A graduate of the University of Texas (BA Computer Science 1981), Tom likes road trips, negotiating contracts with pharmaceutical companies, national parks and music. Tom’s passion is Dr. Brinson! He has been married to her since 1987.
